Amy Charissa Scott is a dedicated and versatile artist with an intense passion for realism, specializing in equine art. Born in Ohio she recently relocated to South Carolina's beautiful horse country. She spent her youth learning equine anatomy, form, and function through physical contact, something she feels is an invaluable education for an equine artist. She explains, “The only way that I have found to really know the anatomy of a horse is to go out and put your hands on one. It is of vital importance to run your fingers over them, to feel how the muscles bunch and release, and to take in the textures of a velvet nose, or a sleek coat.”
She bought her first professional level sketch book at the age of 11. That was the moment in time that she dedicated herself to becoming a serious student of art, and since that time has devoted herself to increasing her skills and knowledge.
Amy thrives on the challenges of working with, and switching between different media. The constant mental stimulation of working in different media keeps her sharp and focused on what she is doing. Every media requires a complete alteration in the thought process. You only mark the dark in a Pen & Ink, you only mark the light in glass work. Switching between them is great mental exercise. Every media she works in is different in almost every manner. They each have a unique method of application, and different paths to completion. However, a mental block in oils can lead to an innovation in pastels, and vise versa.
“I am constantly seeking out new challenges to keep my art sharp, focused and fresh. I am always pushing towards the next breakthrough in my ability to create art that is both dynamically realistic, and emotionally expressive.”
